Executive Director, Technical
Ekpe Ukpabio is a Chartered Insurer and a member of the Society of Fellows of the Chartered Insurance Institute UK and Nigeria. A highly seasoned marketer and astute administrator with industry experience of three decades, he started his career as a Broker and later worked as a Risk Manager before joining Equity Indemnity Ins. Co. Ltd. as a Senior Manager in 1995.
In the year 2000 as AGM (Marketing/Business Development), he was appointed to serve as MD/CEO of Anchor Insurance by the Akwa Ibom State Government; an assignment he delivered excellently as he successfully prepared the company for privatization and hand-over to a preferred core investor.
In 2002, he returned to Equity Indemnity Ins. Co. Ltd as head of business development group comprising Equity Indemnity, Equity Life and Managed Healthcare Services Ltd (MHS). He was later seconded to MHS as Ag. CEO in addition to his Business Development function for the Group before being elevated to General Manager in 2005.
In 2006, he was appointed by Oceanic Bank Group (Now Ecobank Group) to serve as the MD/CEO of one of her subsidiaries, Oceanic Life Assurance Limited (Now Old Mutual Life Assurance Ltd) and also a member of the Board of Directors of Oceanic Insurance Co. Ltd (Now Old Mutual General) and Oceanic Health. Following the acquisition of Oceanic Life by Old Mutual Life in 2012, he was appointed MD/CEO of Equity Assurance Plc from 2012 to 2017.
Mr Ukpabio has special skills in Turn-around Management, Corporate Restructuring and Reengineering, Strategic/Change Management and Negotiation. He is an alumnus of Lagos State College of Science and Technology, Lagos Business School and Swiss Re Academy, Zurich. He is a member of the prestigious Ikoyi Club, Lagos Country Club and Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.
